Homeowners in a recreational housing development in the Appalachian mountains chose the area for its idyllic remoteness. They quickly realized they needed to address the downside of the location: being at least 30 minutes away from the nearest water source for fire protection. Two Ashton Woods homeowners, who were also professional firefighters, recommended the installation of several Xerxes tanks in strategic locations for emergency water supplies. Tanks Direct supplied seven 12,000-gallon fire-drafting underground storage tanks to the community. A key element in this choice was that lightweight fiberglass tanks are easily transported through narrow, winding roads.
